ADA Accessibility

Policy Statement

Hurley Medical Center is committed to ensuring all Hurley websites are accessible for all people regardless of ability or access method. Our websites conform, to the extent reasonably practicable, with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative’s (WAI) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the technical standard referenced by the United States Department of Justice under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

To affirm our commitment, employees designated as website content editors will be trained in the functions of web accessibility tools and techniques. Periodic compliance scans of existing websites are conducted to detect WCAG 2.1 Level AA violations, and identified violations will be corrected to the best of our ability. Upon request, information on company websites can be made available in an alternative format, or arrangements can be made by employees to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities.

Purpose

Our goal is to ensure that everyone has equal access to information and can fully participate in their care. Company websites are assessed for ADA compliance by simulating methods employed by people with various disabilities and by using validators to indicate potential accessibility issues. We are committed to upholding our legal obligations to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Department of Justice (DOJ) web accessibility directives.

Scope/Limitations

All websites maintained on behalf of Hurley Medical Center and its entities.

Accessibility Features

Hurley Medical Center websites make use of industry-standard techniques and preferred practices to provide the highest possible level of ADA website accessibility for our users. These include, but are not limited to, the characteristics of usability for screen reader users, keyboard-only users, users with low/impaired vision, users who are deaf and users who are color blind.

Accessibility Challenges

Hurley Medical Center is committed to assessing, prioritizing, and updating all company websites that are determined to be non-ADA compliant. As a result, we are in varying stages of progress toward our accessibility goal, and accessibility remediation is an ongoing effort rather than a one-time project.

Some of our content is in PDF format. We continue to work on a process to ensure all PDFs are accessible, and documents can be provided in an alternative format upon request.

Third-party services or embedded content (for example, interactive mapping tools and external form providers) may present accessibility limitations outside of our direct control. We monitor these sections and will adopt accessible alternatives as they become available.

If you experience difficulty accessing any of our pages or files, or if you would like information in an alternative format, please contact us at 810-262-9589 so we can assist you directly.
