Senior Services
Meeting the complex and varied health needs of older adults
At Hurley Medical Center, our goal is to keep older adults healthy, active and independent. For your well-being, or that of an older adult loved one, our team of dedicated Hurley professionals and geriatricians provide the highest level of quality health care.
Hurley Senior Services
Hurley Senior Services, located on the Hurley West Campus at 1125 South Linden Road in Flint, is staffed by a team of specially-trained professionals consisting of a registered nurse, medical assistant, medical secretary, medical social worker, x-ray technician, manager, and two geriatric physicians, both of whom graduated from Hurley’s Geriatric Medicine Fellowship program.
To ensure that every older adult patient receives the most appropriate, cost effective and timely care possible, our specialized team uses an interdisciplinary approach to planning care, focusing not only on the physical well-being of the patient but also on the psychosocial, cognitive, emotional, family and social service needs. Featuring health promotion, disease prevention, patient education, caregiver education, and chronic disease management, our program is beneficial to a broad array of older adults, ranging from the highly functioning to the extremely frail, including those in hospice care, assisted living, senior housing and home-bound. Patients who wish to remain under the care of their existing primary care physicians are offered a geriatric consultation, which consists of a full assessment by the team and several follow-up visits, with recommendations reported to the primary care physician for ongoing care.
Hurley's Community Programs for seniors
Keeping our older adults healthy, active and informed is a high priority at Hurley. We offer dementia caregiver education classes, "Dinner & Movie" nights and Speakers' Bureau senior-themed lectures. We conduct research to discover new ways to prevent falls and other debilitating injuries, and offer tips to seniors based on our findings. Because our older adults depend on us, we will always be there for them. To learn about all of our Senior Services Community Programs, click here.
Hurley’s New Paul F. Reinhart Emergency Trauma Center focuses on older adults
As well as providing the latest in innovative, life-saving technology, Hurley’s new Emergency Department focuses on the older adult experience and how best to serve this important population.
