Diagnostics and Testing

Excellence in patient care requires accurate, timely diagnostic information and the highest level of testing facilities.

The leadership and highly trained staff of Hurley Medical Center’s Laboratory Services team epitomize the mission of Hurley Medical Center, "Clinical Excellence. Service to People." Our experience, medical knowledge and technical expertise; our commitment to and investment in education; and our state-of-the-art laboratory facility have made us leaders in the delivery of diagnostic and testing services. For our physician and medical colleagues, this means that they can provide the highest level of medical treatment possible. For our patients, this means a faster return to health and the ability to manage chronic conditions more effectively.

Comprehensive testing and analysis services

We provide the full spectrum of testing and analysis services, including core laboratory work in areas such as chemistry, blood bank, hematology, urinalysis and microbiology, as well as clinical diagnostic work in transfusion medicine, immunology, immunochemistry, molecular diagnostics and special chemistry. Our anatomic pathology services include surgical diagnostics, autopsy, microbiology and cytology, as well as the following diagnostic procedures: cystogram and intravenous pyelogram (IVP).

Telemetry

Hurley’s new patient monitoring system now gives doctors, nurses and other clinicians the ability to view patients’ vital information right at their bedsides rather than from a central location on a hospital floor. This highly innovative telemetry technology, Philips IntelliVue MX40 Patient Monitoring, can be used on any type of patient but is primarily used on cardiac patients. The mobile monitors, which are about the size of a deck of cards, help clinicians spend more time with patients because the monitor’s display allows them to quickly check ECG rhythms, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, trends and monitoring status. Another important feature of the monitors is that they can stay with patients even if the patients are moved to a different floor or area of the hospital.
