Cardiology
A team of highly trained physicians and staff who specialize in treating all conditions of the heart
Heart disease is the number-one killer of men and women in the United States, claiming more than 500,000 lives every year. At Hurley Medical Center, we are out to change that—in Genesee County and throughout the region.
Handling nearly one-third of all cardiac cases in Genesee County, Hurley’s Cardiology Department comprises a team of highly trained cardiac doctors, nurses and technologists who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart conditions, including heart attack, stroke and cardiac arrest.
If you have a heart problem, our specialists are ready to help you with leading-edge diagnostic echocardiogram (heart ultrasound), stress testing, tilt table studies, and cardiac catheterization. If you have a blocked artery, we can perform balloon angioplasty —virtually preventing a heart attack and enabling recovery in less than two hours. We can regulate your heartbeat with procedures such as pacemaker insertion, internal cardiac defibrillator insertion and cardioversion.
Coronary Care Unit
Critically ill cardiac patients receive expert, state-of-the-art care in Hurley’s Coronary Care Unit, and those recovering from a heart attack are monitored and rehabilitated in our Step Down and Cardiac Telemetry Unit.
Hurley Health and Fitness Center Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
Hurley Medical Center cardiac patients can also greatly benefit from Hurley Health & Fitness Center (HHFC), the area’s only medically-based health and fitness facility. HHFC’s cardiac rehabilitation program has a high success rate for patients with cardiovascular disease. Referred by their physicians and monitored by registered nurses and physiologists, patients participate in heart-strengthening exercises such as walking, swimming and weight resistance. In addition, they take lifestyle education classes where they learn about medications, nutrition, heart-healthy diets and exercise safety.
