At Hurley Medical Center, our goal is for your child to be healthy, which includes being at a healthy weight.
Our experienced staff within the medical center and at Hurley Children’s Clinic is specially trained to help your child lose weight. They can also guide you and your child to Hurley’s many weight loss-related programs.
Nutrition Services
Weight loss and nutrition counseling go hand in hand. Hurley’s Nutrition Services has twelve full-time registered dietitians on staff to counsel and educate both inpatients and outpatients about healthy eating and cooking habits and how to lose weight.
Hurley Health and Fitness Center (HHFC)
In addition to providing general fitness and exercise opportunities to the community and Hurley employees, families, and patients, Hurley Health and Fitness Center is the area’s only medically-based health and fitness facility. Located on South Saginaw Street a few miles from Hurley Medical Center, HHFC offers advanced exercise technology, an experienced team of fitness professionals, and most importantly, access to specialists from Hurley’s full range of medical practices, including cardiology, respiratory therapy, orthopedics, diabetes and arthritis.
To help your child get fit and lose weight, HHFC offers a full range of one-on-one as well as group sessions with a personal trainer utilizing state-of-the-art equipment, a 1/8 mile indoor track and a 25-yard pool. Hurley’s Pediatric Diabetes Education Program
Being obese often brings about diabetes, a serious disease that is especially common in Genesee County. To help children manage their diabetes, the Hurley Diabetes Center offers excellent pediatric diabetes education classes.
Hurley Medical Center’s diabetes education program is the largest in Genesee County, offering classes for adults, children, and pregnant women.These programs are recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and certified by the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) as quality self-management diabetes education programs.
Hurley Center for Health Outcomes
The mission of the Hurley Center for Health Outcomes is to improve the quality of life, health and health status of the communities served by Hurley Medical Center. By partnering with local groups, foundations, schools, and organizations, the Hurley Center for Health Outcomes is making great strides in helping people–especially children–control diabetes, lose weight, eat healthier, exercise, and live healthier lifestyles.
