Transforming the health of our community

With health screenings, innovative programs, and neighborhood events, we actively reach the people in our community so they can live healthier lives.

Our Community

Committed to transforming the health of our community

As the safety-net provider for the Flint-Genesee County area, Hurley Medical Center is vitally important to the people of our community. Not only do we treat every person who walks through our doors regardless of ability to pay, we take health education to our community members where they live.

Our commitment to a healthy community is how we live out our mission of “Clinical Excellence. Service to People.”

We routinely go outside our walls and into our surrounding neighborhoods, participating in health fairs, expos, and community fundraisers. Our doctors and nurses visit schools, places of worship, community groups, libraries, professional organizations, and assisted-living facilities. They talk to people about their health, but just as importantly, they conduct much-needed screenings which can identify potential problems or conditions.

We're tackling chronic diseases head-on

We tackle obesity, diabetes, breast cancer and asthma head-on with family weight loss programs, nutrition counseling, diabetes education programs, mammogram screenings and home-based asthma disease management programs. And we don’t stop there. We offer smoking cessation classes and exercise programs and oversee a community garden. We continually look for new ways to reach the people in our community so that they can live healthier lives.

Hurley Center for Health Outcomes

The Hurley Center for Health Outcomes is making great strides in improving our community’s health by partnering with local groups, foundations, churches and schools to educate people about how to prevent diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. Our disease-prevention specialists show people how to eat healthier diets and become more physically active. They offer healthy cooking demonstrations, family weight loss programs, and the PATH program (Personal Action Toward Health), which helps prevent chronic disease management. They organize health fairs, manage a local farmer’s market, and oversee a community garden across the street from the medical center. For a complete list of the many ways the Hurley Center for Health Outcomes improves the quality of life, health and health status of the communities served by Hurley Medical Center, click here.
