Patient- and Family-Centered Care: a new way of delivering health care
Healthcare is changing, and the needs of our Hurley community are changing too. That’s why we have created a highly innovative patient- and family-centered medical center built with our community to better serve our patients and their families.
A history of caring for the people of our community
From its very beginning over 100 years ago, Hurley Medical Center has devoted itself to bringing innovative, leading-edge technology and medical services to Flint and Genesee County. Hurley is owned by the city of Flint and as a result, plays a very critical role in our community.
Every day, we care for the sick and injured, regardless of their ability to pay. We provide state-of-the art medical services, outstanding leadership, and highly trained physicians and nurses—which together, deliver exceptional patient experiences.
The leading specialized care center throughout mid-Michigan
Our mission is to ensure that we are always ready when someone faces a serious injury, complex illness, or high risk condition. In 2012, we will open the Paul F. Reinhart Emergency Trauma Center, a state-of-the-art emergency complex. Our Center for Joint Replacement, Burn Unit, and programs for breast cancer, diabetes education, and asthma management are all nationally recognized.
At Hurley, children are a priority.
As the region’s undisputed leader in caring for babies and children, we have the region’s only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Emergency Area, and Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine. In 1991, Hurley Medical Center was invited to join the national network of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals because we provide the very best care for sick and injured children. We have one of only six board-certified child abuse specialists in the state. And every year, our Injury Prevention program checks and replaces car seats, distributes thousands of free bike helmets and smoke detectors, and helps prevent teenage arson.
Transforming our community's health
While Hurley Medical Center is known far and wide as the best place to go when you are sick or seriously injured, one of our major goals is to keep people out of the hospital. The disease-prevention specialists of our Hurley Center for Health Outcomes educate our community about how to manage or even prevent diabetes, obesity, smoking, and cardiovascular disease.
Courtesy, caring, and compassion, now and always
As we look ahead and anticipate the coming changes in health care, Hurley is exploring new ways to provide our community with the care and ‘Better Medicine’ they need, such as using new EPIC electronic medical records that makes patients’ health records accessible to them online. But even as the world of health care continues to change in ways not even dreamed of a few years ago, our guiding philosophy at Hurley Medical Center has not changed: Touching Lives through Better Medicine.
Today, tomorrow, and beyond, all of us at Hurley Medical Center remain steadfastly committed to our patients, their families, and our communities, and to living out our core values of courtesy, caring, and compassion.
