Visitors and Guests

Dear Hurley Friends & Family,

Effective October 23, 2009, Hurley Medical Center is requesting that only healthy adults 18 years and older be permitted to visit patients, in order to better protect our patients and your loved ones. No children will be permitted. These guidelines will remain in effect during the current cold and flu season. All adult visitors will need to stop by the Information Desk in the main lobby for a visitors pass, until further notice.

Thank you for respecting these guidelines and for helping us keep our community healthy and safe. For more information on the Flu, please visit www.flu.gov or call 1-800-CDC-INFO.

Sincerely yours,

F. Michael Jaggi, DO
Vice President & Chief Medical Officer
Hurley Medical Center

Visitors can be good medicine for patients. Family members and friends are welcome to visit. However, patient care and well being is our primary concern at Hurley, and, in order to enhance the quality of care, specific visiting hours and guidelines have been established for each unit. Visiting hours are available at the Information Desk on the main floor . Please follow these guidelines. If you need additional information, please check with the nurse on the unit.

Visiting Guidelines
Due to allergies of patients and employees, Hurley is a latex balloon-free facility. Visitors may not smoke in patient rooms or in the hospital. Smoking is allowed only in designated areas outside the hospital.

  • Please stop at the Information Desk in the Main Lobby to receive a Visitors Pass.
  • Visitors must dress appropriately and must wear shirts and shoes.
  • Patients may only have two visitors at one time. Visitors in semi-private rooms should be considerate of both patients.
  • People with colds, sore throats, or contagious diseases should not visit patients. Visits should be kept short. Visitors should maintain a quiet environment and avoid unnecessary noise.
  • Visitors may be asked to leave the room during tests or treatments or when the doctor or nurse needs to see the patient.
  • Visitors who are disruptive, threatening, or violent will be asked to leave and restricted from visiting.
  • More liberal visiting arrangements may be made for families of surgical patients on the day of surgery and whenever medical and nursing staff feels that circumstances warrant exceptions to regular visiting times.

Arrangements for exceptions to visiting rules must be made in advance with the nurse manager or designee for the patient care unit.   The special visitor pass will be shown at the Information Desk.

Waiting Areas
There are specially designated lounge areas for visitors on each patient floor and on the main floor in the lobby. Specific waiting areas have been designated for families of patients in the Critical Care Units, the Emergency Department and Surgery. During certain hours, a volunteer hostess is on duty in the surgery waiting room to keep family members informed about the progress of surgery.

Gifts for Patients
Visitors should check with the nurse before bringing flowers or gifts of food or drink to patients. Please check with the nurse to make sure your gift is appropriate. On the Intensive Care Unit, please check with the Charge Nurse regarding any gifts or flowers for patients.

Condition Reports
Any personal information about your diagnosis and treatment must come from your physician, and this information is only available to you and members of your immediate family whom you designate to receive it.

Parking
