The Medical Staff
The physician who admits you is responsible for directing your care while you are in the hospital. Your physician, as the coordinator for your treatment program, should be consulted if you have questions about your illness. In addition to your attending physician, resident physicians are available on may medical units to assist your physician in meeting your medical needs 24 hours a day. If your physician does not practice at Hurley, you will have a team of physicians assigned to your case which will consist of an attending physician and residents who are highly qualified to provide the type of care you need.
The Nursing Staff
Twenty-four hour nursing care is provided by a team of professional registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, and nursing students. A nurse manager is responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care on each unit. An assistant nurse manager or charge nurse is assigned to each shift to oversee nursing care. Please feel free to contact your nurse or the nurse manager if you have questions or concerns.
Other Health Care Providers and Hospital Personnel
Physicians and nurses are assisted in providing your care by many different specially trained professional health care providers. These include physician assistants, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, respiratory care and physical medicine specialists. During your stay, you may also receive services from other health care delivery professionals in the Laboratory or Radiology Departments. In addition, the Hurley family includes many behind the scenes workers, such as accountants, engineers, secretaries, food service workers, and others who contribute greatly toward your well being while you are here.
Dietitians
The hospital maintains a staff of full-time registered dietitians to meet your dietary needs during your stay. If you have questions about your meals or diet, call 257-9772.
Pastoral Services
Hurley believes that total patient care demands attention to the spiritual, as well as the physical and emotional needs of each patient. Members of the pastoral services staff are available to assist you, whatever your religious tradition. The department consists of the Hurley Chaplain, and a staff of multi-denominational chaplains, who have specialized training in hospital ministry. Others who help are laymen and laywomen who also undergo special training. Mass and communion services are offered. Your priest, minister, or rabbi is always welcome to visit you while you are here. We will contact your clergy at your request. If you have any questions about the availability of clergy services, please ask your nurse to contact the chaplain. You can reach Patient Support Services at 257-9220.

Members of the department work with patients and families to assist with issues related to long-term illnesses and rehabilitation. They are also involved in discharge planning. Ask your nurse or call Case Management at 257-9300 if you would like more information about Case Management Services or would like a referral to Case Management.

Your room is cleaned daily by a member of the Environmental Services staff. If there is a housekeeping problem in your room, tell your nurse, and it will be taken care of as soon as possible.
Volunteers
Volunteers contribute many hours of service and financial assistance to the hospital. They supplement the services of the hospital staff in many ways and can be identified by their nametags.
